As I said that with a feeling of melting contentment, Saine’s laughter cascaded down on me.

When I reached out and touched Saine’s shoulder, a pair of strong arms lifted me up. Saine put me on his lap and sat cross-legged. I hugged him with both hands and feet.

[Of course. You’re my only husband, you know?]

 

When I tightened myself around it, Saine indulgently stroked my head.

 

[Just having that kind of possessiveness is great. Do you know? You have no idea how much you’ve hurt me every time you mentioned about getting yourself sold or whenever you tell me to get the Ceremony.]

[Saine, were you hurt?]

[Because no matter how much time passes, you don’t trust my words.]

 

Saine told me over and over again to believe in him. But deep down I just couldn’t. 

Saine is kind so he might really think so, but you know, I thought he was going to abandon me in the end. I ended up hurting Saine so that I won’t be hurt when he abandons me.

As a thank you for removing his name from the Ceremony registry, Saine received a beautiful knife, which he then gave to me. It’s a dining knife, which is essential here. [Won’t it be dangerous to bring Kyui to the Daryss house?]

[The barrier made by the Priests have gotten weaker. The only one who can make a stronger barrier in this town right now is Olphynn. If it’s him, he probably won’t try and kill Kyui all of a sudden.]

 

The Priest’s mansion is covered by a barrier. Kyui, despite being a small and weak  monster, gets caught in the strong barriers laid around the priest’s mansion. That’s why I’ve never taken Kyui to the plaza where the Darrys house is located.

As I tilted my head, wondering if it would be okay, Saine gently took my chin and made me look up.

 

[I will talk to Olphynn. That’s why, never leave Kyui away from your body.]

[If that’s what you say then I will do it. But there’s no benefit in deceiving me, you know? Oh, but, I guess someone might use me to blackmail you…… Okay, I’ll be careful.]

 

To reassure Saine, I nodded affirmatively. I don’t think it’s conceited to believe that I could be Saine’s weakness. When I said this with a smile and asked, Saine hugged me tightly.

Since it’s pitch-dark and I can’t see, Saine doesn’t nod or use such gestures to communicate. He tells me with words, and when not speaking, he lets me know by holding me tight or giving a firm push.

But then, Kyui would be put in danger. The opponent would definitely shout out about the presence of a monster.

He said that earlier as well, that it would be okay if Kyui were eliminated. To be eliminated means to be killed. For monsters and humans alike, being killed is the end. Is it really only Kyui who would be okay? Or is it something about the type of monster Kyui is?

 

[Kyui isn’t going to die?]

[Yeah, rest assured.]

 

Saine’s low voice resonates gently. I don’t quite understand, but if Saine says it’s okay, then it must be okay. I can’t learn everything at once about monsters or about Kyui, but I hope to gradually learn more from him.

 

[Okay. I’ll take Kyui with me wherever I go.]

 

Seemingly reassured by my promise, Saine grabbed my waist and moved me up and down. The Saine who was being still inside suddenly rose up. I stretched out my arms and hugged his thick neck, letting Saine’s movements take over everything.

 

I like being embraced fiercely like a storm, but I also enjoy being held slowly and carefully. If I had to choose between the two, I’d go for the latter. I feel a sense of happiness being enveloped by a gentle sleepiness after being embraced.

Saine was stroking my hair with just a faint touch. I moved slightly, brushing my nose against him. I sighed softly, ready to let go of consciousness.

 

[My Reincarnator…… I won’t let anyone hurt you.]

 

The moment I fell asleep, I felt like I heard Saine’s voice whisper to me.
