It doesn’t sound like a joke coming from Olphynn’s mouth. I’ve stayed in the Daryss Family for a few days and have also come to understand the power of a Priest.

Regardless of the past, the power of the Priests now is focused only for the Ceremony. They can heal a little, but they have no offensive power. It’s supposed to be the priest who defeats the small monsters that come into town, but it’s the Heroes and Dauntlesses who really defeat them. According to Olphynn, it’s a Priest’s shield set up in the town. He said that this has also gotten weaker compared to before.

The more Heroes who defeated monsters came out, the less the Priests learned attack spells. Attack, healing, barrier, as well as Ceremony. He said that these four use different spells. It’s not memorizing one spell and overlapping it with another spell, it’s a completely different one. That’s why if they try to memorize 4 different spells, they will end up with a huge number of spells, and the way to use their power to activate them will also change. 

It seems that ordinary Priests don’t want to do that kind thing. Rather than learning useless spells, it’s better to learn how to use spells and powers to increase the success rate of the Ceremonies.
